A new look, a new way to write, and a better experience on your phone. Your notes stay the markdown you wrote.
- A new look: an app rail and library in place of tabs, so picking a note opens it
- A WYSIWYG editor: Document view formats your note as you write, with Markdown one switch away
- A better mobile experience: the library is a screen of its own, every row is at least 44px tall, and a format bar appears while you type
- A typography overhaul: Geist throughout, one twelve-step type scale, and notes that read like documents
Snappier unlock and key operations
All cryptography now runs in a dedicated background worker, so the app stays responsive while unlocking. Raw encryption keys never reach the page itself.
Syntax highlighting contrast
Comment, string and number colours now meet WCAG 2.1 AA across every theme.
Mermaid diagrams
Fenced mermaid blocks render as live diagrams — flowcharts, sequences, Gantt charts and more — entirely in your browser. Click any diagram to view it fullscreen.
Focus Session
A built-in Pomodoro timer with custom durations, a distraction log and session history. All data stays local.
Trash bin
Deleted notes are kept for 30 days and can be restored to their original collection.
Plum Light & Plum Dark themes
Two new themes with a near-black plum title bar, bringing the total to eight.
Guest mode
Try Squirrel Notes without an account. Sign up later and your notes move across in place.
Keyboard & screen-reader accessibility
Focus-trapped modals, arrow-key menus, a skip link and labelled icon buttons throughout.
MCP server via npx
Install and run the MCP server with npx @squirrelnotes.app/mcp.
Due dates for tasks
Add @due(YYYY-MM-DD) to any task. The Tasks page groups by date, filters by Overdue, Today or This week, and badges overdue tasks.
Note icons
Choose from ten icons and a colour for each note.
Real-time sync (Pro)
Changes appear on your other devices within about a second. The channel carries no note content.
Offline mode
The app loads fully offline after a first visit, and unsaved edits survive closing the tab.
